Sometimes, there are difficult or deep conversations to be had with our children. I decided to start the conversation young that we do not judge people by the color of their skin. I found a great book to open that conversation regarding the dark history of our country and how one person. It is titled The Other Side of the Fence.

Summary: The Other Side of the Fence

Clover’s mom says it isn’t safe to cross the fence that segregates their African-American side of town from the white side where Anna lives. But the two girls strike up a friendship, and get around the grown-ups’ rules by sitting on top of the fence together. It is a heartwarming story, but opens the door to discussions about the truths of our past, and steps we can take for a better future. I would absolutely recommend this book.
