Cleaning a Plastic Shower Curtain
When I was a young wife, it was very clear to me that there were a lot of things that I did not know how to do, fix, or mend. Still to this day, there are things I don’t know and am learning.
Today, we are going to talk about the dreaded plastic shower curtains and/or liners. Oh, its awful–that orange dinginess it gets….the musty smell…….the water spots….I could go on.
I had a Christmas shower curtain that my mother had given me years ago. It had water spots all over it. I decided to fold it and put it away with the imaginary ambition of scrubbing it. Years later, I found it all the way in the back of my Christmas decor boxes and wondered if I could save it. I figured, if I ruined it in this experiment, I would at least pass it on as a bad idea to you, the reader. Worst case scenario the shower curtain would be ruined.
Cleaning it the Easy Way
Place the shower curtain in the washing machine with 2 large bath towels. (I figured the towels will give it a good wipe down to the curtain so it was not just rubbing on itself.) I used a very small amount of laundry detergent, and in the bleach compartment I put 1/4 cup of vinegar. If the mildew is very bad, I encourage you to use more vinegar. It won’t hurt anything. Wash on cold on a gentle cycle. Air dry. It will come out as good as new! DO NOT EVER PUT A PLASTIC SHOWER CURTAIN IN THE DRYER!
